City Council Schedules Oversight Hearing for DOH Restaurant Inspections: The New York State Restaurant Association thanks our members for coming out to support the industry at yesterday’s City Council Oversight Hearing of the Department of Health’s (DOH) Letter Grade inspection system. NYSRA’s efforts to obtain this hearing was heard by the council and we will continue to push for reforms to the system that will protect public health but make sense for restaurant operators. LIVING WAGE UPDATE- The New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA) is proud to report another legislative accomplishment!: Although the new bill has yet to be drafted, NYSRA can report that the controversial and far-reaching Int. 251-A (Living Wage) bill, which was introduced in the City Council, WILL EXEMPT RESTAURANT TENANTS. This legislation proposed that some restaurants located in buildings that receive government subsidies pay their employees a minimum of $10.00 (plus benefits) per hour or $11.50 (if no benefit was offered). Eating & Drinking Establishment Pre-Operational Inspections: Beginning August 15, applicants for new eating or drinking establishments throughout the five boroughs will contact NBAT, the New Business Acceleration Team, to schedule their pre-operational health inspections.

Municipal Notification: In 2008, a new law was passed that required local municipalities to be notified 30 in advance of filing an application for a new license or a renewal. A new law signed by Governor Cuomo on September 23, 2011 took effect immediately and changed the municipal notification requirements for some licensees. Read more. |
Eating & Drinking Establishment Plan Reviews in Manhattan: As of August 1, applicants for new eating or drinking establishments in Manhattan receive a streamlined review process for their construction plans. NBAT, the New Business Acceleration Team, is reviewing these plans.

October, 2011- Poker Tournaments: On September 26, 2011, the New York State Liquor Authority issued a declaratory ruling stating that a poker game or tournament would not constitute gambling under the ABC law if certain conditions are met and strictly followed. Failure to satisfy all of the conditions could result in disciplinary action. Read more |
